Plan for campground and visitor-service changes

Separate overnight access, sanitation, boat slips, and maintenance when checking a park’s visitor services.

Reviewed Oct 20, 2026 · California Parks

Check the service you need

A park’s general opening information does not describe every visitor service. At Benbow, the campground sanitation dump station is listed as out of service and closed until further notice. That is a restriction on the dump station, not evidence that every area of the park is closed. If your trip depends on a particular service, check that service explicitly rather than relying on a general park listing.

Official visitor information

Availability can be partial

Angel Island’s visitor page lists day-use boat slips as partially closed, with 16 slips open at the time of the source review. This illustrates why a facility notice needs both a location and a scope. An overnight plan, a day-use boat landing, and another park activity may have different requirements; the reviewed statement about day-use slips should not be extended to other facilities.

Official visitor information

Prepare for reduced maintenance

Ahjumawi’s visitor notice reports temporarily limited maintenance services and asks visitors to carry out all refuse they bring. Review the actual instructions as well as the headline: reduced service can change what you need to bring and take away without preventing a visit. Where a notice gives no end date, this directory keeps that date unknown. Confirm the latest arrangement with the managing agency before relying on the service.
