California ParksMORE OUTSIDE. CLOSER TO HOME.

Privacy, simply.

How California Parks handles location, weather requests, and third-party services.

Your location

The near-me tool requests location only when you choose “Use my location.” Coordinates are used in your browser to sort parks by distance. This site does not send those coordinates to an application server or store a location history.

Third-party requests

Interactive maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap. Weather panels request forecasts and observations from the National Weather Service for a park’s coordinates. Those providers receive ordinary request information, including your IP address. Opening an official website follows that provider’s privacy policy.

Browser storage

Weather responses are cached in browser local storage for 15 minutes to reduce repeated requests. The cache can be removed through your browser’s site-data settings.

Analytics

Vercel Web Analytics collects aggregate information about visits and page use without setting analytics cookies. Google Analytics 4 is enabled with measurement ID G-Q1XVG2D85V. Your browser loads Google’s tag and may send page and interaction information to Google. Google may use cookies or browser identifiers to measure usage. The location tool’s exact coordinates are not included in analytics events.

Hosting and submissions

This static website is hosted on Vercel. The hosting provider processes ordinary request and security logs, including IP addresses. Correction reports are sent by email; include only information needed to investigate the reported error.
